Why is it that in professional poker play on t.v.,...
...both chips AND cash are used? I watch poker on t.v. and can't seem to figure out what the need for both chips and cash are in play. hmmmm....

i've never once seen cash on the table until its the final 2 on the final table, then they bust out the fat wads all over the table...oo man how nice. The Winners Money.

the tv programme you are properly on about is high stakes poker, which is a cash game not a tournament. for this the players use there own money, they will swap some for chips but also have there cash on table as well. and when its there own cash its easier to have cash as well.

Mostly because it looks better for TV. It adds a bit more drama to have 10k in cash rather then a 10k chip.
